A Bit About Me...

Like most people I was born ... ? Unlike most people, I was born 4 months early - with a few problems. I have Cerebral Palsy, a hearing loss, and a somewhat diminished breathing capacity, (which has never kept me from screaming my head off when pissed.) After spending about the first year of my life in a hospital my adoptive parents brought me to a loving home with two built-in sisters. That was convenient! When I was seven our family moved to the Los Angeles area where I've lived ever since.

Growing up I attended "special schools" and graduated from high school in 1972. The only break in this otherwise idyllic life occurred when I was 11. I developed scoliosis and went into the hospital for "two weeks," and came out three blankety, blank years later! Going in as a child and coming out a young woman was bad enough; going in trusting the medical profession and coming out not trusting anybody was far worse. But, I got over it- mostly. It's taken years to recover the trusting nature most of us have as children and carry with us into adulthood in the form of love and confidence.

At the breakfast table one morning, after graduating, I confidently informed my parents I was moving out; I was ready to prove I could live on my own just like my sisters. (I had the same youthful arrogance and spirit all young people have.) Despite requiring a great deal of personal attendant care I did manage to do OK, even attending a local community college in Santa Monica. Then it all went topsy turvy - I got married!

Divorced after three years, I found myself living in a convalescent home for old folks. What a trip! Rotten green eggs for breakfast, cockroaches who actually sang and danced to make us laugh so we wouldn't be totally disgusted, and loving, caring attendants who would leave you on a toilet for three hours. But, as in all of life, there were many good things I don't ever want to forget: guarding the physical therapy room so two other residents could "do it" without being surprised, (privacy was non-existent), ordering take out food at 11:00 PM, and drinking so much soda during a "drinking contest" we all got sick, (and spent hours on the toilet peeing!)

After several years of knocking about in various situations I finally ended up where I am today: living as independently as I can in my own apartment. I married again, but my husband and I ultimately decided to take separate paths. My name is Rodde once again, and life goes on....

In My Spare Time

My hobbies and pastimes include swimming, music, (pop rock and oldies but goodies), reading and writing. A more recent pastime is "email penpal" corresponding and online chatting. Somehow, sending messages to people all over the world then having them respond instantly is really wonderful. Please feel free to drop me a line via the email window below or go to my CP Meeting Place page and see how you can also chat, and even see me live via the internet. Who knows, maybe we'll start something wonderful!! For a better idea of what I'm doing currently visit the hot links below. I update them when I can so come back from time to time.

If you would like a personal reply to a question or problem email me!
Please be patient, however, as I get many emails every day.
