Hear A Voice Message From Susie

I've corresponded with many wonderful people from all over the world and the two most frequent topics people write about are penpals and networking. All of us need someone we can talk with; someone who really understands what we feel and why, the problems we face, and the importance of just being able to have someone listen. It's also important to have a broad base of knowledge and a good source of practical solutions to common problems, particularly if you're disabled or if you're the parent of a disabled person.

So, after many, many requests here's an opportunity to get in touch with others who want to share themselves and their experience. This is a rather informal page and the information listed for the people below is not in any particular format; nor is it intended to be as complete as some might want. But then, isn't mutual exploration part of the fun of corresponding? A couple of things to keep in mine, though. First, most of the people listed either have CP or are parents of a child with CP. Also, those who have indicated a need for more information on raising a disabled child or solving a particular problem are probably looking for more than simply writing back and forth. Please be considerate of that.

If you want to write to someone listed simply send post a message on the message board.

Lanya: Hi everyone:) I'm new to this site, actually new to online chat! I was hoping to have some feedback from experienced mothers who have had a first child with CP and decided to have a second child. My son is 19 months old and had a bleed in his brain at birth. He is now globally quite delayed and quite a handful. We are unsure of his development potential but he is a joy just the same. I just found out I was pregnant again and 'Dad' doesn't think it's a good idea to have another child. We are obviously worried about the potential of something going wrong again (although there is no increased chance of this happening again). Dad doesn't feel it would be fair to take away our time from our son and he doesn't think he has the energy or love to share with another child. He actually is hoping that I'll agree to terminate the pregnancy. I am pro choice but this is not really something I would like to consider for myself and unborn child (which is now 8 weeks old). Can you please give me some feedback on the your pro's and con's of having a 2nd child?!... (this is of course the extremely condensed version of our relationship and son's issues) Thank you -- Lanya Click here

If you would like a personal reply to a question or problem email me!
Please be patient, however, as I get many emails every day.
